Ling told him that friends and allies are precious and are not to be abused or taken for granted, and Greed was wracked with conflicted feelings. Ling objected to this senseless brutality, and Greed's memories of his past life began to return. When Greed stumbled across one of his old minions, failing to recognize him, the homunculus killed him out of contempt. In fact, the two of them became partners, and Greed began to undergo some paradigm shifts. An ambitious prince from Xing, he didn't object when Father decided to use him as a vessel for Greed. Greed's second lease on life arrived when Prince Ling found himself before Father. Greed rejected Father once again, so he was melted down into his original Philosopher's Stone. But then Wrath, acting as King Bradley, stormed the Devil's Nest and captured Greed, and brought him before Father. Ed rejected the deal, and he and Greed fought to a standstill. In Greed's eyes, Alphonse's body was ideal, since a suit of armor cannot die, and the bonded soul could live forever. Greed treated Alphonse roughly, and he offered a deal to Ed: if the Elrics taught Greed the secret to immortality, then he would give them a Philosopher's Stone. So, he reached out to the Elrics while operating from his base, the Devil's Nest. But he wanted another treasure: true immortality. ![]() By the time the Elric brothers met him, he'd been out of contact with his "family" for many decades, and he had a collection of thuggish followers. So he fled, and carved out a personal empire for himself. The perfect model of his namesake, Greed wanted power, authority and treasures all to himself, and he couldn't achieve that dream while being Father's good little subordinate. Around 200 years before the main events of the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood anime, Greed broke away from Father and his six siblings in an act of open defiance. ![]()
